I first saw Hattie at Sevenoaks Festival in 2001, singing with her jazz quintet. They were great players, but she truly sparkled. There was something very engaging about someone still so young, singing jazz classics with such confidence, poise, and above all, a great voice.
The performing conditions at the festival were less than ideal, but she delivered an infectiously good set. I've seen her since under better conditions, and left with the impression that here was somebody who could convey exhilleration, passion, pathos and tenderness in equal measure.
Hattie Webb is one half of alternative-pop duo 'sisterswebb' along with her sister Charley. As experienced musicians they play folk and rock harp, guitar, penny whistle and piano to accompany their unique vocal and sibling harmony.
Hattie began singing at five years old with her brothers and sisters at charity concerts, and has studied harp since the age of eight. Hattie sang with The National Youth Jazz Orchestra throughout 2000, whilst also performing on-going sell-out concerts with her jazz quintet.
Hattie already has plenty going on in her life, without being troubled by us sad old bluesers, but we are really pleased she has agreed to sing with us on a few numbers. This is a new departure for the band, and one that we are really looking forward to.
Hattie is presently concentrating on THE WEBB SISTERS, who are currently writing and recording for an anticipated UK release in 2005. The sisters recorded their debut album 'Piece of Mind' in Nashville in 2000, and have promoted the CD in America. Whilst in Los Angeles they performed at one of the pre-'Grammy' parties along with Dido, Wyclef Jean and Stevie Wonder.
